Case Description
I am 53. 30 years ago, teeth 5-12 received gold porelain crowns. Over the years, many of them needed root canals, including 8and 9.
8 is now loose, and my dentist say it is because my bone has receded to 45%. he wants to remove crowns 6-11 and remake them. Bridged to each other. I understand his reasoning, but I wonder about periodontal bone reconstruction using GEM 21S instead. If my bone is receding, wouldn"t it be better to fix the bone?

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hi,It is best to avoid a bridge, specially when it is a long span between #6 and 11. A great option is to rebuild the bone and place a dental implant. This way the crowns can remain separate for easier cleaning and longer survival. If you would like a consultation, please call my office at (301) 654 7070 and I will be happy to give you recommendations and best treatment options.ThanksDr. Kazemi

You have an moderate or advanced case of periodontal disease if you have lost that much bone. You are endangered of loosing many teeth. If you splint them, you may be in danger of making it less accessable to proper flossing. Gem 21 s a fabulous material if used properly and may indeed help in regenerating alveolar bone that you have lost. If you already have a loose tooth because of periodontal bone loss, that is a classic sign of moderate to severe periodontal disease, which requires to treatment by a progressive periodontist.Feel free to call our office for an exam/consult as you need a regenerative approach in tryng to save your teeth.

If there is an option to pursue regeneration, a qualified periodontist or oral surgeon would be the way to go. Perhaps your dentist has a periodontal office with whom he/she works regularly. If not, you are welcome to contact one of our periodontists/oral surgeons for a consult for alternative options. If you would like some referrals, please contact us.The other consideration is to introduce implants as part of the solution. All the best

It is always better to keep your teeth, but if there is too much bone loss, bone can not be added. In this case, it would be better to pull the tooth and do a bridge or denture. I can''''''''t comment on your case with out seeing you and your X-Ray. I hope this helps in your treatment, if there is anything I can do, I am in Fairfax. (703) 279-3400.Dr. Mark C. Choe
