Case Description
Hi- I am a 23 year old recent graduate from Mason, my current job offers medical insurance but does not offer dental insurance. In June of 2008 I had a crown put in my upper right back molar, in November it began to become painful-especially at night. I was able to continuously clean it and somehow the pain gradually went away, in the past three weeks the pain has become unbearable....mainly at 3am in the morning when I have to lay on the floor while pressing a hot wash cloth against my swollen cheeck until the ibuprofin, aspirin, and naproxen kick in. I have been told that I need a rootcanal but have been given a quoted price of 2300 without a payment plan or even upfront discounted price. I do not have anywhere near this amount of money- but at the same time am in so much pain and discomfort that I have contemplated yanking out the tooth myself....I would appreciate any help or advice that ANYONE can give me, I am really just a struggling recent grad who is in a lot of pain and needs someone to give me any sort of help! Please email me with any referalls or advice- ahoefling@gmail.com, I really appreciate you taking the time to read this- thank you and I sympathize with all you other posters that are having tooth pain and can't seem to find some help.

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Cost Estimate: $1100
Hi,I usually don''''t quote fees over email or phone but it sounds like you are in a dire situation. In general our fee for root canal on a molar is $1100. The root canal can be done over 2 visits where you would pay 1/2 the price on visit 1 and the other 1/2 on visit 2. Visits are generally 1-2 weeks apart. You should be comfortable/pain free after the first visit. We also offer 12 month interest free payment plans with CitiHealth.Hope that helps. Good luck.

Base on your symptoms above, it is pretty much certain that the tooth is needed for a root canal treatment. You may also have an abscess ( cheek swollen..), which may be very dangerous. After a root canal is done, you would need to have a filling (build-up) to restore the tooth back to the form. Then you should have a crown to cover the root canal treated tooth, especially it is a molar/premolar (back tooth). I believe the price being quoted to you is for the whole package, which includes a root canal, a build-up and a crown. Since you have already had a crown, we may be albe to salvage it by doing procedure through the crown, provided the crown is still good, so the fee will be much less. If you already have the current xrays of the problem tooth, we can give you a courtesy consultation/second opinion. Whatever you decide, do not delay the treatment. We also offer financing through a care credit, chase health care company. I hope this help.Regards, Dr. Vu

If you cannot afford the root canal you will need to have the tooth extracted. You will not be able to do this on your own. A root canal will cost between 1200 - 2000 for that tooth. If we can be of any assistance, please give us a call.
