Case Summary

Teeth:
Case Description
I took MRI exam of my joints. The report shows that the discs in both TM joints are anteriorly as well as displaced in the closed mouth displacement of the disc. No bone abnormality is noted in the both joint. My teeth is overbite. I wonderring whether I can wear brace to cure TMJ and overbite at same time.

In general, what is the cost for TMJ? I was terrified by the doctor who gave me the consultation. Today, my visitation costed me $$ only for telling me how much the cost of the TMJ treatment would be.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Taking the MRI of the TMJ is the first step in treating TMJ/TMD.

The cost of the TMJ consult in Va. can range from $175 to $450, and this does not include MRI of TMJ.

You can not treat TMJ problem and the deep bite with braces by itself.

First thing you need to do is to treat the TMJ and the displaced disk and hold that new positon of the jaw with braces and at the same time correct the deep bite.

There are several doctors that treat TMD and ones I know are myself, Dr. Mike Rogers and Dr. Brandin Stacks. I am sure there are more. If you want a second opion, I would happy to look at you or call the other doctors I listed.

The cost of the treating TMJ (Phase I) and Braces (Phase II) can have wide range of fees depending where you go. You should choose the doctor that you feel comfortable with and not by the cost of the treatment.

I would be happy to discuss the treatment options with you. Please call my office and set up a consult.(703) 279-2400.

I''''m pretty sure who you saw. He''''s a pretty stern fella who is the worlds most renown TMJ expert. If you have no disc and bone deterioration, you can have orthodontics to correct the deep bite and TMJ postioning. Furthermore, you may need some sort of appliance therapy if you''''''''re experiencing continuous pain. True TMJ specialists don''''''''t just do appliances. They have to do it all including cranial bone stabilization using orthodontics.

I would be happy to consult with you. My base level TMJ orthodontics is $5400. Or you could wear a splint the rest of your life. You''''''''ll be surprised how much other pain and suffering is tied into TMJ.

I''''''''''''''''m not practicing in your area and do not condiser myself to be an expert at tmd although a treat a lot of it in my own practice. Disc displacment in a closed bite is very common and often not necessary to treat. The question is does the disk go into the correct position when you open? How soon after you start to open does it go back? You don''''''''''''''''t know the answer to those questions I''''''''''''''''m sure. The orthodontist who responded to you is probably the best one to treat you I think. I''''''''''''''''ve found that many people with TMJ related pain in a deep bite situation are finding there jaw forceably pushed back when they close together. This is often easily treated by orthodontics. Dont be concerned if your disc never repositions. This is not the goal of tmd therapy. Relief of your pain is. Beware of those who consider themselves tmj experts. There is a lot of quack dentistry being practiced by well meaning dentists in the name of TMD. You can choose to wear a mouthguard "orthotic" all the time or, in some cases, you can find relief from an appliance worn strictly at night. Try googling NTI. By the way, getting an mri is NOT the first step in treating tmd. Reducing hyperactive muscle activity that results in pain is. Dentists do not agree on that point but my experience tells me it is true. Good luck to you.
