Case Description
Hello. I have had an abscess for years which I couldn't afford treatment for. I have been consulted before and was told that I would need to have bone grafting procedure. Was waiting for my financial situation to improve to seek needed treatment however, it has not gotten better but worse. I do not have dental insurance and now I am extremely concerned about the state of my overall health. The abscess has gotten visibly bigger. The left side of my face appears swollen and I have also been noticing significant structural changes to my face; it appears to be abnormally non-symmetrical in the jaw, cheek and nasal area. I am assuming that these changes might be a result of the worsening abscess and health as I feel unreasonably fatigued. At times, I had even hoped that it would worsen enough that treatment could be then "health-related" and therefore, be covered under my health insurance, although it probaly wouldn't be covered and really not a good idea to wait any longer. Unfortunately, I have waited far too long and really could use some helpful service and direction. Please advise who to seek and what an endodontist, oral surgeon, or periodontist may charge for treatments/options and a ballpark estimate, if possible. Thank you.

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

I am a periodontist in Springfield who specializes in patients with difficult, involved dental and periodontal problems with anxiety as well. You will need a complete evaluaiton and full mouth individual xrays followed by a full hour consultation. Nobody can give you an estimate of your situation without a complete dental exam, including a periodontal charting. Please feel free to visit my website at www.washingtonperio.com for more details. We would be happy to see you as soon as you are ready. Feel free to ask my receptionist the fees for the evaluation and we can proceed from there.Sincerely,Bruce S. Wyman DMD

If things have progressed to the point of noticeable extra-oral swelling and systemic effects, you should probably head straight to an emergency room. You can consider the long-term dental solutions after addressing the critical infectious process. Alternatively, an oral surgery office near you might also be able to manage the infection effectively.Good luck

You need extractions if you cannot afford anything else. Our fee is $200 - $400 per tooth depending on the type of extraction. You cannot wait years with an abcess. An infection like that could kill you. You are opting out of medically necessary treatment.
