Need Dentist / Specialist: No
Provide Cost Estimate: Yes
X-rays Available: Yes
Case Summary
Root Canal Crown
Teeth: 15,16
Last Full Mouth X-Ray: 4-31-08
Last Cleaning: 5-5-08
Case Description
Hi, i Just went to the dentist. i had really bad pain in tooth #29. Dentist said it was a cracked tooth most likely. He put a temp crown on and this has removed the pain.

After looking at x-rays. He saw that my too molars in the very back left side need root canals. I have insurance but the coverage is minimal. He gave me an estimate of around 4500-6000 for the root canals and crown, temp crown and fillings? Is this reasonable?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Cost Estimate: $5500
Hi,

Unfortunately for you, the estimate provided seems entirely accurate for this area. It may help to realize the cost of not saving these teeth may be significantly higher. For example, two implants in the same area could run you $9000 - $10,000.

If the cost is too much to handle, consider financing it like you would with any other major purchase. Companies like Care Credit offer interest free financing up to a year, or consider using one of the low interest credit card offers we all get in the mail.

Dentistry, along with most of health care, is not the place to go bargain hunting.

Warm regards,

Dr. Michael Rogers

Those fees are reasonable. Try to go to the dentist on a regular basis and your troubles will become less and perhaps you will only need preventative maintenance in the future.

Fees in this area can vary, but the total fee for a root canal and corresponding restoration can run upwards of $2200 per tooth. Fees for fillings range from $145-250 per tooth, assuming there is no need for a root canal or crown.

Depending on how many teeth are involved and exactly how many root canals, fillings, and crowns are involved, the quoted fee amount seems accurate.

Good luck

Thanks,
