Case Description
I am dying to get my teeth whitened but I have a cap on my front tooth. My fear is that the cap will no longer match the whiter teeth, and I cannot afford to pay over a thousand dollars out of pocket for a new cap. Can anyone tell me how to have my teeth whitened and avoid a pricey new cap? Will insurance cover the new cap? Any guidance would be hugely appreciated!!

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Our office has done over a thousand in office bleachings and this is a very common concern. Almost always, the bleaching blends in with the crown and it doesn''''t need to be replaced and many times the crown looks better when the adjacent teeth are lighter. To have a better idea about your case you would need to be seen for a very short consultation.Dan Deutsch, DDS

Insurance will cover the crown if a dentist can find something such as decay wrong with it. Of course your insurance company needs to cover crowns. You will need to re-do the crown after whitening your teeth-no way out of it.

This is a tough call. Each case is different. The best recommendation is to see you in person and evaluate the color of your crown and teeth. By examining your crown, if there is any defect present, then the insurance company might cover a new crown. Please call us to set up your complimentary consultation appointment. We could also offer you affordable monthly payments.

I agree with Dr. Deutch. Most of the time the crown doesn''''t need to be replaced and actually looks better after the whitening. The reason for this is that the crown was made to match your teeth the color they were many years ago. Whitening simply returns them to that same color. It is possible to get your teeth whiter than they were before, and if you desire that effect, then you probably will need to replace the crown.Dr. Michael Rogers,Arlington, VA

This is a very common concern for a patient who desires whiter teeth yet has a crown on a front tooth. All I can say is that some patients do opt to replace their crown after a whitening procedure and some opt to keep their crown as is. To best predict if the crown will need to be replace we would need to see you for a complimentary visit. At which time we will give you our opinion, and guidence for any insurance issues.Dr. Eric Markowitz
