Case Description
My son is 2 years and 9 months. His front tooth is damaged. According to the Xray the root is fractured so the root canal procedure is not possible. The dentist recomends the removal of the tooth. He has an ifection earlier this week with swollen gum and a lot of pain. He is on antibiotics now. I worry that upper front tooth removed will later affect the alignment of his permanent teeth, what would you receomend.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

If you have any concerns about treatment or recommendations, it''''s fine to seek a 2nd opinion, preferably from a pediatric dentist in this case. Many of our Pts have taken their kids to Dr. Ed Nelson''''s pediatric office in Arlington and have reported good experiences. Some space maintaining should probably be considered, but Dr. Nelson''''s office can guide you more appropriately. Good luck

I would reccomend seeing a pedodontist . (a childrens dentist) It sounds as if the tooth should be extracted and a retainer is usually placed to hold the place for the permanent tooth.

hii certainly agree with dentist''''s recommendation for extraction if the root is fractured and infected. Being the fact that he is almost three, a good approach to do this would be a sedation technique. I treat many children and can provide an anesthesia type that is safe and appropriate for the procedure. You can make an appointment by calling my office at (301) 6754-7070ThanksDr. kazemi

Hi. Removal of this tooth should not have an affect on the permanent teeth alignment. This is more of a concern with baby teeth that are in the back of the mouth (primary molars). I would recommend finishing the course of antibiotics so the swelling/infection goes down, then have the tooth extracted. I''''d be happy to take a look and help in any way i can. Your son needs the removal of the tooth done as soon as possible . He should be on antibiotics for at least 48 hours before the extraction. The removal of the tooth will not affect the position of the permanent tooth, however I would suggest having a kiddie partial made to hold the space so the bone doesn''''t collapse in and so the new tooth has room to grow in the space later. We can do these procedures for you if you give our office a call. I am a pediatric dentist and trained at Georgetown and Maryland and have been practicing for 20 years and working in pediatric dental offices since I was 12 years old!
